Title III, Language Acquisition and Culture Consultant Email Phone: 920.723.6826 Dr. Brook Goralski-Cumbajin is a Title III, Language Acquisition, and Culture Consultant at CESA 2. For more than 20 years she worked as an educator, instructional coach, program coordinator, and curriculum developer serving Wisconsin’s linguistically and culturally diverse students and families.
She earned both her Bachelor’s degree- in Second and Foreign Language Education- and her Master’s degree- in Spanish and Latin American Literature- at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Brook is a certified PreK-12 ESL and Spanish teacher, Principal, and Director of Curriculum and Instruction. She earned her Ph.D. at the University of Wisconsin-Madison with an emphasis in Curriculum, Instruction, and Second Language Acquisition. Her dissertation
focused on (a) making language visible in content area classrooms, (b) the need for additional teacher preparation in meeting the sociolinguistic, sociocultural, and instructional needs of diverse language learners, and (c) the administrative shifts needed to ensure cross-curricular administrative/teacher collaboration during and beyond the school day. Brook’s experiences supporting and advocating for language minority communities is extensive and is not limited to community service and partnerships, parent/family workshops, professional presentations at the state and national levels, research, publications, and as a member of many committees and councils geared towards improving the educational experiences and long-term outcomes of language learners.
Brook approaches consultation and collaboration via a growth mindset. She strives to foster the development of
positive, reflective, and sustainable communities of practice that are committed to working towards social justice by
connecting theory to practice. Throughout her career, Brook has worn many hats. From leading the development and
implementation of K-12 language programs, facilitating professional learning for PK-12 staff in the areas of Bilingual
and Second Language Literacy Development, SLIFE, GLAD, QTEL, SIOP, and Co-Teaching to leading the development and implementation of academic and nonacademic RTI/MTSS across bilingual elementary schools. Brook’s motivation to continue learning and growing is fueled by her passion for serving first-generation, low-income, and immigrant student populations. She is happy to call CESA 2 home and serve schools and districts in the areas that continue to inspire her most.
