The Badger State Spelling Bee program will be taking place in 2020-21 - although in a new format. Because so much is uncertain about the future of in-person events this school year, the bee program is going online. From classroom competitions all the way up to the state championship, our state's young spellers will have the opportunity to still be able to compete in this fun, enriching school tradition - virtually.
The rest of the structure is the same as in past years for our Wisconsin spellers:
1. Word study lists are provided
2. Class winners will advance to their school competition
3. School winners will advance to their district or CESA competition
4. CESA winners will advance to the Badger State Spelling Bee (expected to be held online in March 2021)
5. The Badger State Spelling Bee winner will qualify to compete in the 2021 Scripps National Spelling Bee (generally held in May - no word yet if this will be a virtual or in-person competition)
Scripps is offering the same kind of study guides, bee tests, and other materials as in past years, plus the option of holding your classroom and school bee competition online. Schools that are holding in-person classes may also use the traditional spelling bee format. The online materials will be released before Oct. 16 to schools who register at:

Early-bird registration rates have been extended to December 20, 2020, for Wisconsin schools and homeschool organizations. Please register your school as soon as possible to get the discounted rate!
