About the Presenter:
Brook Goralski-Cumbajin, Ph.D. is a Title III, Language Acquisition, and Culture Consultant at CESA 2. For more than 20 years she worked as an educator, instructional coach, program coordinator, and curriculum developer serving Wisconsin’s linguistically and culturally diverse students and families. Brook is a certified PreK-12 ESL and Spanish teacher, Principal, and Director of Curriculum and Instruction. She earned her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction and Second Language Acquisition at the University of Wisconsin, Madison and approaches consultation and collaboration via a growth mindset. She strives to foster the development of positive, reflective, and sustainable communities of practice that are committed to working towards social justice by connecting theory to practice and is driven by her passion for serving first-generation, low-income, and immigrant students and families.
We are excited to form a network of individuals who are charged with support the IT and Edtech for School Districts in the CESA 2 region. This network would meet virtually once a month, have a rolling agenda, bring in state-wide voices like DPI, and possibly even have guest speakers of interest. There would be a minimal annual fee of $75 per district.

About the Presenters:
Beth Clarke is an innovative educator with over 25 years of experience who is an advocate to ignite the learning experience. Her passion lies in learner-centered pedagogy while partnering with educators to leverage digital tools and resources. Currently, Beth’s role is the Senior Director of the Digital Leadership and Learning Center at CESA 2 where she has the opportunity to support educators across southern WI. Also, Beth facilitates the integration of Universal Design for Learning to promote conditions for inclusive education, the New Teacher Mentor program to support educator induction and sustainability, as well as the ISTE Educator Certification program which builds modern educators world-wide. Most importantly, equity is a priority in every facet of her work.
Frank Devereaux is CESA 2's new Digital Learning and Emerging Technology Consultant. Frank worked most recently at Madison Country Day School as their Technology Integration Specialist and has previously worked in the Verona Area School District. He brings a wealth of experience in the integration of technology in creative and innovative ways to support student learning in the classroom. He enjoys collaborating with educators to develop curriculum and helping them effectively integrate technology to improve student skills.

Description: LETRS® (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling) is comprehensive professional learning designed to provide early childhood and elementary educators and administrators with deep knowledge to be literacy and language experts in the science of reading. LETRS is one of the approved trainings named in 2023 Wisconsin Act 20.
This course teaches the how, what, and why of literacy acquisition to improve instructional practice and achieve long-term systemic change in literacy instruction. Additionally, participants gain essential knowledge and skills to master the fundamentals of literacy instruction required to apply and transform student learning.
Districts will be invoiced on October 20th, 2023. At that time, cancellations will not be accepted, and refunds will not be allowed. Registration is transferable to a staff member in your district. This supersedes our regular cancellation policy.
Cost: $1000. Breakfast and lunch are included.

About the Presenter:
Kris Statz joins the CESA 2 team as ELA Literacy Consultant. Her background is in special education and she has been fortunate to spend that time co-teaching alongside amazing educators at the elementary and middle school levels. She has also served as a Tier 1 and Tier 2 PBIS coach. Kris has a M.S. in Education, a Reading Teacher and Reading Specialist license along with Cross Categorical Special Education licensing from K-age 21. She has also completed LETRS (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling) training.

Latricia Johnson serves as Senior Director for the Curriculum and Coaching Center and Systems for Inclusive Learning Center for CESA 2. She has worked in Milwaukee Public Schools, the School District of Beloit, and West Allis/West Milwaukee School Districts. In her 30 years of experience, she has served in various educational roles: District School Improvement Coordinator, Director of Teaching and Learning, Professional Development Registrar, District Curriculum Generalist, District English Language Arts Coordinator, Principal, Literacy Coach, and teacher. She also works as an Adjunct Professional at Alverno College in the Business Department. She has extensive experience providing educational leadership support services that focus on planning and developing frameworks, models, and implementation strategies that support equity for all children. She has impacted change through refining tools to support transformational work to deepen the change in professional learning and instruction. She finds it gratifying to provide direction, leadership, and continuity of programs that enhance the educational, personal career, and social development of children (PK – 12) in a culturally relevant way.
Valerie Schmitz, PhD is the Senior Director of Continuous Improvement for CESA 2. In this position, Valerie leads the regional work for educator development and district implementation of the Wisconsin Educator Effectiveness System, as well as data analysis and school improvement. Valerie has deep expertise in this work, serving as the Educator Effectiveness Coordinator at CESA 6 for the past four years. She has assisted districts with implementation of both Educator Effectiveness and the Effectiveness Project. She also has deep expertise in data analysis, systems analysis, and school improvement. Valerie has earned a Ph.D. in Education with a specialization in Instructional Design for Online Learning as well as an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership. She also holds a M.Ed. in Technology Education as well as an M.Ed. in Educational Leadership.
